New Year’s Resolutions for Your Garage

Man-Pressure-Washing-Garage-Door

Now that the decorations are safely stowed away and the in-laws are back in their cozy homes, it is time to honor your yearly home maintenance resolutions. Some people opt for cleaning out their closets, while others focus their attention on fine-tuning major home appliances and exterior features.  Garage doors are the workhorses of the household. For being the largest appliance, garage doors are mostly overlooked. When you consider how much wear and tear these heavy-duty doors endure on a daily basis, it’s easy to see why it is important to conduct a yearly check-up.  Garage Door Maintenace Check List  Let’s face it. Home improvements and monthly upkeep isn’t all that fun, but rather a labor of love. Whether you are transforming your garage into a man cave, or simply giving it a tune-up, Incorporating your garage door into an annual maintenance routine will keep it running smoothly into 2021.   Improve Security – According to law enforcement, the garage is one of the most vulnerable entries in any household. Thieves can gain access to your garage in under six seconds. What’s even more troubling is that most homeowners don’t lock the interior door that leads to the garage. So if an intruder were to gain access to the garage, they’d also have access to your home, which is no good. To keep your belongings and family safe, there are both high-tech and old school solutions for burglar-proofing your garage. Try mounting cameras in the garage and syncing them with your smartphone. That way you can monitor the activity in your garage from anywhere in the world. You can also go the obvious route and lock your garage door from the inside at night. If your garage door didn’t come with a latch that can be locked, you can drill a hole just above the rollers and secure it with a padlock.  Tighten up the Hardware – On average, a garage door will open and close more than a thousand times in a year. In the midst of all this heavy lifting, the hardware can loosen and create real problems. To keep your garage door on track and operating smoothly, give your garage door a once over and tighten the roller brackets, nuts and bolts with a socket wrench. Be careful not to strip any of the hardware.  Test the Garage Door Balance – Balancing your garage door is more important than one may think. If your garage door is off-balance, the opener will be forced to work overtime to compensate for the off-kilter garage door. Eventually, your garage door opener will buckle under the strain and you’ll have to call a garage door technician to come in fix it. There is one way to check to see if your garage door is off balance? Try to manually lift the garage door up halfway. If it doesn’t stay put, then the counterweight system is improperly balanced. Adjusting, calibrating and even possibly replacing garage door springs should be left up to a professional.  Inspect and Replace the Rollers – Without rollers, your garage door would cease to function. No matter what material your garage door wheels are crafted from, they need to be checked on at least twice a year and replaced every eight years. This is something that most homeowners overlook. When you are inspecting your rollers, if you see any that are chipped or cracked, it is time to replace them.  Replace the Weatherstripping – Every garage should have proper weatherstripping, regardless of where you live in the country. Quality garage weatherstripping will keep out the frigid air during the winter, and also helps sand, dust and other particles of debris from wafting in your garage. If you notice that your current weatherstripping is cracked or crumbling away, it is time to replace it. Weatherstripping can be purchased rather cheaply at your local hardware store and is easily installed. Measure the length you will need prior to going to the home improvement store. That way they can cut it to your exact specifications right there on the spot. Easy enough, right?   Clean And/Or Update Your Garage Floor – An oil-stained garage floor is not a pleasant sight. If your garage doubles as a workplace or chill spot, you’ll want to make sure the floor is looking good this year. You’ll be surprised to find out that you can give your garage floor a major facelift for under $20. There are special chemicals that can really give a polished look to the grossest of garage floors. This can be accomplished in less than three hours, and will surely make a lasting impression. Be sure to have all the tools you need to execute this task safely. You will need a stiff brush, towel, protective goggles and gloves before you begin.  Pressure Wash Your Garage Door – This is fairly straightforward. Washing off all of 2019’s dirt from your garage door will be gratifying. If you do not have a pressure washer gun, you can easily rent one for a day from any Home Depot or hardware store. Once you’ve tackled the garage door, if time allows, you should pressure wash the driveway and walkway to your home as well.  Create New Year’s resolutions that you can easily execute. Ensuring that your garage door is in working order is actually a pretty simple task. Start this new year by incorporating garage door maintenance into your yearly or bi-monthly routine. By doing so you will save money, secure your valuables and keep your family safe this year.  Precision Garage Door Las Vegas are experts at fixing any garage door problem in less than 2 hours. How to Change the Batteries in Your Garage Door Remote

Garage-Door-Pvc-Hand-Uses-Remote-opener

Your garage door is one of the heaviest and most frequently used appliances in the household. Weighing in at anywhere between 180 lbs, all the way up to a whopping 400 lbs, garage doors have a lot of moving parts and tend to malfunction from time to time. Fortunately, most mechanical and electronic related issues are typically easy to correct. You can either fix it on your own, or a simple call to a garage door specialist should do the trick.  When the garage door fails to open, most people panic and begin to envision a huge repair bill or begin watching DIY garage door repair videos on YouTube. Before you go ‘jumping off a cliff’ and calling a professional, or dismantling your garage door opener, the best way to troubleshoot a finicky garage door is to investigate the quick fixes first. Square one: The batteries in your garage door remote.  Changing the Batteries in Your Garage Door Remote  Dead batteries are the #1 cause for garage door remotes not working. The lifespan of garage door remote batteries is about two years, depending on how often your garage door is going up and down. Another factor is what type of garage door remote and battery you’re using.  One of the telltale signs that your garage door remote is running low on juice is that you have to click it several times for it to successfully open your garage door. So let’s take a closer look at what kind of garage door remote batteries there are and how to change them.  Step 1: Opening Your Garage Door Remote Chances are you won’t need any tools to open the back cover of your garage door remote. At most you may need a Phillips-head screwdriver or smaller, but with newer remotes that is highly unlikely. Start by turning the garage door remote over. There you should see a cover that can be removed. Slide the cover down with your thumb to expose the battery housing. If no back cover is visible, it may be that the entire remote pops in half at the seam and splits into two pieces. Best case scenario you have an owner’s manual to show you exactly how to open the garage door remote.  Step 2:  Identify the Battery or Batteries  As with most handheld devices, there are a few different types of batteries that may be needed. Typically, your garage door remote will have a circular battery that looks like a coin. With batteries like this, it is important to notate the numbers on the battery so you can properly replace it, the sequence will usually start with a ‘C’. In rare cases, your remote may require a smaller alkaline battery like a AAA battery. Larger remotes will call for AA, but that is uncommon with garage doors installed in the last decade. Once you have established what kind of battery needs replacing, it’s off to the store to buy two sets. One to replace the old batteries, and another to have on standby for the next time this happens.  Step 3: Replace Batteries and Reprogram Your Garage Door Remote Once you’ve purchased the right battery for your garage door remote, follow the above steps to re-remove the back cover. Simply pop in the new battery or batteries and replace the cover. At this point, you may need to reprogram your garage door remote. This is easier than it may seem. If your garage door was installed in the last 5-8 years the remote will typically have a one-button pairing option. Find the pairing button, hold it down for 3 seconds (you may see a blinking light) and release. This should have successfully paired your garage door remote with the garage door opener. If you are having trouble pairing your remote, go online and search for the model number of the remote. There will likely be an instruction manual available to successfully walk you through the process.   Ideas for Making Your Life Easier  There are a few ways to make your life easier, even if your garage door remote is being difficult. It may require you to do a little more reading or even making a call to a garage door professional, but if you’re looking to simplify things in the future, refer to the below tips for streamlining the process.  Look for an Online Manual – Almost everything has an online PDF user’s manual now. If you can find out what garage door remote and/or garage door brand you originally had installed, there is a great chance they have lengthy instructions for you to follow online. There may even be visual aids and other troubleshooting methods for problems that arise in the future.  Use Your Cell Phone as Your Garage Door Remote – In the era of smartphones, it is no surprise that you can now have your garage door open with the simple flick of a finger. If you are like most people, you usually have your smartphone with you at all times. Ask your garage door installer if they can outfit your current garage door system with this feature so you always have access to your garage without the use of a separate remote.  Keypad Garage Door Entry – This is a great idea, secondary to the handheld remote. If you lose your garage door remote, or in this instance the battery dies, and you need immediate access to your garage, installing a keypad on the exterior of your home may be a great solution. Keypad entry systems are affordable and moderately easy to install. Contact your garage door installer to find out if they can help you find the best fit for your garage door system.  Precision Garage Door Las Vegas are experts at fixing any garage door problem in less than 2 hours. Why & How to Lubricate Your Garage Door

Coming home to a noisy garage door is irritating. Nonetheless, annoying screeches, and even groans, don’t always mean you need to rush and call a repair professional. Oftentimes, lubricating your garage door can solve the problem. But it’s important to use the right lubricant and follow the right procedures to make sure your garage door is properly maintained. Lubrication can help your garage door run more smoothly and even extend its life. Part of regular maintenance, it should be completed about every six months. There are a few simple steps to follow. Close the garage door by remote or manually; tracks and moving parts will be more easily accessible. Disconnect the door from the power source; turn off the circuit breaker if the opener is hard-wired or difficult to reach. Use a damp rag to clean out the tracks. Don’t use lubricant here, but if it’s hard to remove dirt and grime, vacuum them out. What Lubricant to Use A lithium-based grease is best suited for garage door parts. It can be purchased at a hardware store or online in the form of an aerosol or spray can. When you are ready to lubricate your garage door, focus on the following: Hinges: For each hinge, insert the thin hose attachment into places metal rubs together. The larger the door, the more hinges it will have. Then slowly lift the door manually and spray each hinge as it reaches the bend. One or two sprays per hinge is enough to keep each lubricated. Rollers: The rollers are located at the edges of the door, inside the tracks and attached to each hinge. Lubricate exposed ball bearings inside the rollers by spraying the grease inside. Excess lubricant can cause the door to become unbalanced, so wipe it away carefully. Bearing plates/springs: You’ll find the circular bearing plates on both sides of the springs. Using a step ladder to reach them, spray the outside of the springs and close to the center of the bearing plates. Open/close the garage door to spread the lubricant. Insert lubricant into the garage door lock (in the keyhole) to reach moving parts. This can resolve an issue if your lock is hard to open or the key sticks, and it can prevent rusting as well. Also, spray the lubricant on the armbar at the top of the door. The rail, which the chain rides on, can be found along the ceiling. Lubricate the top part of the rail where the chain comes in contact with it. Then use a rag to spread the grease around. There’s no need to spray the bottom of the rail or the chain. Call a Garage Door Professional for Help This guide provides a general explanation of how to lubricate your garage door. The owner’s manual that came with your garage door and opener should provide instructions on lubricating the system. Garage door lubricants generally cost only a few dollars. Holiday Garage Door Covers and How to Install Them

garage-door-cover-christmas

Garage door covers come in many forms. This holiday season, you can decorate your garage door to make your home more festive. Just as covers are available for various other holidays and special occasions such as graduations, various options are available as winter sets in. Some people even cover their garage doors to be more patriotic or be more connected with nature. Each cover is like a banner or mural that is reusable and lets your garage door open and close as usual.   How to Install a Garage Door Cover Installing a typical garage door cover takes about 30 to 60 minutes. You only need a few items to get started. These include a tape or folding rule, felt-tip pen, scissors (or a carpet cutter), dry cleaning cloth, a cleaning agent, and a level. To start, unpack the cover and take accurate measurements of your garage door. You might have to cut the garage door cover to size, so it will fit properly. Basic scissors are usually all you need. Next, thoroughly clean your garage door with a clean cloth, so the surface is smooth and the mural will securely adhere to it. Turn the poster over so the rear is facing up. Now is time to prepare the surface to stick to the garage door. Stick the loop tape around the edges, making sure to apply it evenly and cutting the edges precisely where they meet the sides of the poster. Next, secure the hook tape to the edges of the garage door, matching the dimensions of the cover. Now you’re ready to attach the garage door poster. Match the edges and gently press along the length of the tape so the poster sticks to the door. Then find the door handle and mark where it is; cut an opening so you can access the handle to operate the garage door. Can I Attach a Garage Door Cover to a Sectional Door? The process of attaching a garage door cover to a sectional door is similar. Make sure the door is clean and the poster is trimmed to fit. Hook tape must be attached to the edges of each door section. The fuzzy side of the tape is then stuck to the back of the poster. However, each section of the poster will have to be trimmed for each individual door panel, before it is attached. Like before, mark where the door handle is and cut the poster for it to fit through. Continue attaching the cover section by section. When you’re done, the door should open and close normally without damaging the cover. Garage Door Cover Considerations When installing a garage door cover, make sure the outside temperature isn’t too cold or too warm. For the best results, attach the hook strip to the garage door first. Wait 24 hours before securing the cover to the door. How Often Should I Get a Garage Door Tune-Up?

Residential-house-2-car-garage-interior

It’s a good idea to get a garage door tune-up once every six months. Garage doors consist of many mechanical parts that work hard every day and that wear over time. After all, they’re used as much as several times per day.   A damaged garage door component can lead to many avoidable problems, and even dangerous situations. In the worst case, complete failure of the door can cause major damage to your home or vehicle, and put you and your family in harm’s way. Thousands of people are seriously injured every year due to garage door mishaps. There’s often little or no warning before a part goes bad. Regular tune-ups can spot any problems before they get worse or are even detectable with normal use. Purpose of a Garage Door Tune-Up A garage door tune-up is one of the most effective forms of preventative maintenance. It is a detailed process in which a professional technician checks the garage door opener, the tracks, the condition of the door panel, and the tightness of hinges, springs, cables, and screws. Worn rollers can cause a door to go off the track, so a close examination of them will detect any problems. A technician can also lubricate parts and test cable tension. Bad hinges can eventually cause damage that requires replacing the entire door. But a regular tune-up can spot worn hinges that can be replaced by your technician on the spot. This is much easier and more affordable than replacing a neglected garage door. A tune-up can entirely prevent common serious garage door problems that can happen suddenly without any warning. Routine maintenance also helps increase longevity. The more wear your garage door has over time, the greater the risk of failure. Door sections may bow or crease in areas where there is high stress. As time goes by, these areas get weaker and require costly repairs. A tune-up can address signs of an issue early and prevent more serious consequences, such as garage door failure. The painless process can prevent a garage door from eventually crashing down on cars, equipment, or people. Tune-Ups Maintain Your Garage Door Opener Too Homeowners rely on their garage door openers to get in and out of their garage. If the opener malfunctions, some doors cannot be opened, which is extremely inconvenient. The device consists of many components, which work hard to move a door weighing up to several hundred pounds. A garage door tune-up may be required by your state or local municipality. In addition to meeting safety regulations, it is often required to sell a home. Routine maintenance has many advantages, including the possibility of your garage door lasting as many as 30 years. What Are the Strange Noises Coming from My Garage Door?

Garage-door-repair-noisy-garage-door

Garage doors have a way of letting us know something is wrong. A little noise may not be something urgent to worry about. But keep in mind garage doors and their components wear over time, so taking a strange noise seriously can save trouble later. You can narrow down the list of potential problems by listening to how your garage door sounds. Loud Thumps or Clunks Clunks, thumps, and even booms when the door opens and closes often signal a garage door opener problem. The noise may be caused by the opener struggling to lift and lower the door. Oftentimes this is due to a broken torsion spring. You can safely check the spring while the door is closed; if it has broken into two pieces, a repair technician should replace the spring to restore your garage door’s function. Clinking Hearing a “clink, clink, clink” while your garage door is operating can mean different things. Most often, it’s from the spring coils rubbing against one another after they dry out and develop rust. This is something to look for in a cool, humid garage. A defective roller can make a clinking sound as well; if so, it is nearing the end of its life and may fall off if not repaired or replaced soon. Squeaking A squeak is a much sharper sound than a clink. The door will squeak constantly when it opens and closes, meaning its PVC components are not properly lubricated. To fix the problem, apply lubrication to the weather stripping on the exterior frame and between each garage door section. Grinding Metallic grinding sounds often involve an electric garage door opener’s chain or belt. The grinding is often due to a loose chain/belt or one that should be adjusted by a professional. A chain or belt problem can cause the opener to work harder than normal. It can also affect the gear pinions, which may skip links as a result of the issue. Determine the Source of the Noise As we know, garage doors make noise for a reason. The issue might not be that serious if metal parts need to be lubricated. You can do this yourself applying a petroleum-based oil to rollers, hinges, and springs that are in working condition. Silicone-based lubricants can be used for weather stripping. But if you notice a broken spring, it is a serious matter. Operating a garage door with a broken spring can lead to more catastrophic damage to the system, your vehicle, or belongings stored in your garage, as well as serious injuries. The springs, and the lifting mechanism, are under high tension so if a spring breaks off, pieces can be flung at high velocities. Never change a broken spring yourself. Call a garage door repair professional to address the problem with the appropriate equipment. They are experienced in these types of matters and can fix the issue quickly while avoiding serious dangers. Garage Door Backup Systems

power-outage-lightening-home

Battery backup is now a requirement for all newly installed garage door openers in California. As of July 2019, all residents who replace their garage door/opener must have it or face a penalty of up to $1,000 per violation (per SB 969). Battery backup systems for garage doors operate during power outages and allow residents to safely evacuate during an emergency, such as a fire, earthquake, severe storm, or any other urgent situation.   Without battery backup during a power outage, your only option is to open the garage door manually. This is not only difficult, but also dangerous if you’re not familiar with the process or there’s little time to escape. If using battery backup, you have two installation options: Battery Backup Accessories A backup battery that can be installed separately, after the garage door opener has been installed. Many models can run up to 50 cycles in one day after an outage and fully charge within 48 hours. One model offered by Genie can be added to certain models, but not all garage door openers can be retrofit. Also, battery longevity depends on several factors including environmental temperature and frequency of use. Built-In Battery Backup A range of leading-brand garage door openers include built-in batteries. Genie, LiftMaster, Chamberlian, Mastercraft, and other brands include a 12-volt battery as an option when purchasing an opener. LiftMaster introduced the option in 2003. These backup options provide enough standby power to operate a door for 20 open/close cycles in 24 hours. Some garage door backup batteries are installed as an additional component outside the main opener, while others are built into the motor housing. Built-in batteries are smaller than ones installed over the motor. Each battery is unique to its respective garage door opener, so is not interchangeable with other products. How to Know a Battery Backup Is Working Knowing how to use your battery backup is important for safety reasons. It will only power your garage door if it is functioning. You can test the unit by listening for a warning tone that indicates a low battery life. The battery life indicator on the wall panel can provide insights into system status as well. Also, you can test the garage door opener by unplugging it and operating the door manually. If the door does not work, you can suspect a problem with the battery backup system. Other Things to Know For LiftMaster and Chamberlain garage door openers, the battery backup system provides indicators on how it is functioning. Solid green means the battery is fully charged while flashing green means it is charging. If the opener has lost power, the light will be solid orange. Flashing orange means power is low and solid red means the battery should be replaced. It’s important to stay on top of your garage door opener backup battery’s status. Battery backups tend to last two to three years and may not last as long as designed. Like a garage door and opener, the backup must also be maintained. Battery backup is an additional consideration required of all garage door owners, but it is run on openers with a DC motor. You can therefore expect quieter and smoother operation. Consult with Precision Door Service of Las Vegas Our experienced technicians install all types of garage doors, openers, and accessories. Contact us today if you’re not sure if your garage door opener has battery backup or you need a backup system installed. For more information or to schedule a consultation, call 702-553-4621.

How to Open My Garage Door in a Power Outage

Young-Woman-opening-garage-door-in-power-outage

Most people take their garage doors for granted. The nature of their simple function makes them one of the most underappreciated and overlooked features in a home. Your garage door most likely runs off of electricity. And unless it’s happened to you before, you probably wouldn’t even dream of being trapped in your garage during a power outage.  Power outages are not an uncommon occurrence and can happen at the most inconvenient of times. For those that don’t have a battery backup unit installed on your garage door opener, you may benefit from the following information. When a power surge happens and the lights go out, knowing how to free your car from the clutches of a deadweight garage door is a useful skill.  Intuitively, both Chamberlin and LiftMaster took power outages into consideration when designing their garage door openers. And even more fortunate for you, Precision Garage Door Las Vegas carries and installs both of these garage door opener brands. Their intelligent design allows for a fast and easy exit during a power outage.  How to Open Your Garage Door During a Power Outage    First things first, grab a nearby flashlight or use the flashlight on your cell phone. If it’s dark outside and there are no windows or light in your garage, you’ll need some light to execute the following steps.  Before you try to disengage the garage door from your garage door opener, which will ultimately allow you to manually lift the door yourself, make sure the door is in the down position. Your garage door opener is the box that houses the gears that give your garage door the ability to go up and down.  Underneath your garage door opener should be a red emergency cord. You’ll want to pull that red cord down. This will effectively disable the trolley operator that is responsible for pulling the door, and allow for manual lifting. Move it back about an inch or so.   Find the lifting handle. The lifting handle is often installed on the bottom panel, but could be located in the second section of the door. Assuming that your garage door is well-balanced and the spring system is in good condition, you should have little difficulty lifting the garage door with one hand. Once the garage door is successfully open, pull your car out and then attempt to reconnect the door to the garage door opener.  Reconnecting the Opener to the Garage Door  When you have accomplished your goal and/or the power comes back on, you’ll want to reconnect your garage door to have it operate automatically again. This may require an extra set of hands.  Find the carriage unit. This is the device attached to the track that works by lifting and lowering the garage door. Make sure that the carriage unit is positioned close to the motor near the center of your garage ceiling. If you have another able-bodied adult around, one of you should pull the manual release handle again, while the other person pushes the garage door upwards until it clicks into place.  Some garage doors will let you reattach the door automatically by clicking the garage door remote. In this instance, the carriage will move to reconnect with the door on its own when they automatically move to reach each other.  Is there an easier way? Sure! Both Chamberlin and LiftMaster offer garage door openers that do have a battery backup system, but not all models have this feature. If you are in an area that is prone to blackouts, it may be a good idea for you to invest in a garage door opener that has a battery backup system.  What Not To Do!  Do not force the door open. There is no reason why the garage door shouldn’t open with ease after disengaging it from the opener and trolley, no matter how heavy the door is.   If your garage door is opening unevenly or is giving you difficulty, then it may be due to a faulty tension spring or cable. This could be part of a much larger issue. Pro tip: Opening your garage door manually is a great way to uncover repair issues. Garage door technicians suggest manually opening your garage door a few times a year to suss out worn-out or defective garage door parts   What You Absolutely SHOULD Do!  If you want to upgrade your current garage door opener, repair broken garage door springs, or repair your existing garage door, you’ll absolutely need the help of Precision Garage Door Las Vegas. Our highly trained technicians can be there in under 2 hours, with a fully stocked truck, ready and able to fix the most difficult of garage door problems. Call today: 866.265.4824

A Guide to Garage Door Windows

garage-door-windows

Windows are one of the most innovative features of garage doors. Aside from the broad choice of materials and styles available, installing a garage door with windows has aesthetic and functional benefits. By doing so, you can: Add natural light to your garage without installing additional bulbs and fixtures. Increase the curb appeal of your home, as windows add character to the façade. Customize your garage door to make it one-of-a-kind. Match the style of your garage door windows to your front entry door windows. Adhere to building codes for impact-rated glass in high-wind areas.   Preparing to Add Garage Doors with Windows The use of mixed materials is the latest design trend. A garage door with glass along with wood, steel, or aluminum can provide a classic or contemporary look. The entire door can be customized to compliment your home’s architectural design. When planning to install garage door windows, here are some important considerations: Safety: Garage door windows are structurally safe; they don’t change the stability of the door itself. However, windows are vulnerable to severe weather and impacts by objects, but overall, they are easy to replace. Privacy: Clear glass is common for garage doors. And since garage door windows are usually placed near the top of the door, a typical person can’t see inside, although privacy glass options (frosted, tinted, mirrored, etc.) are available. Selection and Installation Installing garage door windows is no small task. Retrofitting an existing door with windows is difficult and not the wisest choice. Windows add weight to the door, which affect its stability and balance, not to mention put excess strain on the door springs and garage door opener. When installing a garage door with windows, you want to pay careful attention to: Insulation: Insulated glass windows are available. They can maximize energy efficiency and even contribute to the year-round comfort in your garage, especially if you use it as a playroom or workspace. Color matching: Replacing single panels on an existing door can leave mismatched parts. Even if the new panel is the same color as the rest, older panels may have faded in sunlight, and the existing finish might not match. Design options: Adding garage door windows provides more design flexibility. Not all are square; there are different shapes to choose from, representing styles ranging from classic to modern, to Colonial, Art Deco, or Mid-Century. Adding garage door windows is effective only if they match the style of your home. The windows should exhibit a similar shape and style to other elements of the architecture. For example, arched windows can complement curved architectural elements and help make your boxy home feel more sophisticated. The design options for windows is practically unlimited. Depending on the garage door, windows can be custom fit in any section. Some people choose to string them horizontally across the top, but windows can be stacked vertically as well. You can also choose which sections will have windows or put windows in every section of your garage door. Over the past few years, estates have been breaking records with massive, ultra-expensive garage spaces. In 2014, KTLA reported on Palazzo di Amore. Featuring 53,000 square feet of living space, 12 bedrooms, and 23 bathrooms, it also has an entertainment complex and whopping 27-car garage—not to mention a 3,500-bottle wine cellar/tasting room—all for a record-breaking listing price (at the time) of $195 million! Coldwell Banker reported it was also the most expensive home listing in the U.S. Palazzo di Amore Is Not Alone In fact, CNBC reported in 2017 on a Bel Air, California, home with $30 million worth of cars. The “auto gallery” had 12 rare expensive cars, including some of the rarest in the world, including a $2 million Pagini Huayra and $15 million 1936 Mercedes 540K Special Roadster. The 38,000 square foot mansion with its 12 bedrooms, 21 bathrooms, fitness center, six bars, 85-foot infinity pool, and entertainment center with a 30-foot television, was put on the market for $250 million. Some other examples of the most expensive garages in the U.S. include: John Travolta’s Former Ocala, FL, Home: The actor’s huge mansion’s giant garage not only holds 15 cars. It also has a built-in docking area for a Boeing 747 airplane. Travolta is also known to park his Gulfstream jet there as well. Leading up to the expansive home is a mile-and-a-half long runway. Jerry Seinfeld’s New York City Garage: At $1.4 million, the comedian’s 3-story garage can hold about 150 vehicles. It has white terrazzo floors, an elevator, and touchscreen-controlled temperature, lighting, and doors. The garage even incorporates its own kitchenette, pool table, and theater. Tom Gonzales’ Former Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Home: The former owner and founder of e-commerce company, Commerce One, has a garage with a vehicle collection estimated to be worth $5 million. His collection of one-hundred motorbikes, which have never been ridden, is included. Vehicles are lowered to the 6,000 square foot underground garage via a large elevator, disguised as a fake tree and boulder from the outside. Craig Jackson’s Scottsdale, Arizona, Garage: The CEO of Barret-Jackson, which auctions off vintage cars, has his own $2 million car collection. It includes a 1966 Pontiac LeMans and a 1932 Ford Custom Roadster. The garage, incorporating a rotunda designed after the wheel of a 1967 Shelby, has a state-of-the-art lighting system, shop, and private showroom. While all the cars and the garage are hidden in the hills behind Jackson’s home, he periodically drives them to shows, rallies, and when shopping. Does Your Typical 2-Car Garage Now Seem Mundane? The average U.S. home has a one- or two-car garage. Even though your garage probably will never live up to those who can afford the largest ones in the country, every garage has this in common—they all need maintenance and protection. Maintaining garage doors is one of the most important things you can do for your home. From proper lubrication to spotting issues with garage door springs, cables, and rollers, there is much to do to ensure your garage door system runs flawlessly for as long as possible. Your garage door may open and close several times a day. Normal wear and tear can impact the garage door opener, photoelectric eyes, and the door material itself. Whether you notice an issue or it’s time to upgrade and replace your garage door, contact Precision Door Service of Las Vegas.
